p.1

The provision is good

Children develop close relationships with the childminder. They enjoy cuddles and plenty of reassurance from the childminder, which helps to develop their self- confidence. Children are happy and emotionally secure. There are plenty of opportunities for them to manage age-appropriate responsibilities. For example, they help the childminder to put away the toys that they have used, developing their independence.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder is aware that children's language is in the early stages of development. She uses good teaching strategies, such as speaking clearly, repeating words and listening intently, to help widen children's vocabulary. There are good opportunities for children to explore and understand the wider world in which they live. For example, they visit playgroups and socialise with other minded children. They are developing social and emotional skills. Children make good progress from their starting points and show positive attitudes to learning.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder sets high expectations for children's behaviour. She sets clear boundaries for them to help learn acceptable behaviours. For instance, the childminder reminds children gently about the rules in the setting to help them play safely. Children learn these expectations from an early age and behave well.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder has been following the COVID-19 (coronavirus) safety guidelines. For example, she has increased the frequency of handwashing in the setting to protect children's health and well-being. n The childminder plans a suitable and balanced curriculum to help children gain the knowledge and skills they need for the next steps in their education. For example, children enjoyed a physical activity in the garden. They had lots of fun practising their walking, running and balancing skills. n The childminder makes good use of her accurate observations and assessments to help identify and close any gaps in children's learning. For instance, the childminder supports children in managing their behaviour to ensure they are prepared for the next steps in their education. Children are learning to listen and follow instructions well. n Parents appreciate the information they receive from the childminder about the

progress their children make. They said their children are happy and enjoy attending the setting. n The childminder is kind, caring and responsive to children's needs. For instance, she quickly settled children for a rest when she recognised they were getting tired. She has a good understanding of children's personal needs. n Children build on their creativity and imaginations. For example, they use

need to do better?

26 May 2021 pretend mobile phones and show they know how to push the buttons and hold it to their ear. Children are successful at making connections with what they have seen and heard. They show good levels of motivation in their play. n The childminder makes effective use of opportunities to develop children's early understanding of mathematics. She encourages children to use numbers during play and they respond positively. n The childminder has recently completed a webinar on how to support children's learning and development in the prime areas. However, she does not focus her professional development to identify learning to enhance her knowledge of how to extend children's early interest in literacy. n The childminder evaluates her practice. However, she does not involve parents fully in the self-evaluation process to help identify further improvements to the setting.

p.2

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder attends webinars such as safeguarding to keep her knowledge up to date. She knows the indicators of harm and how to report these to the relevant authorities. Children learn how to keep themselves safe. For example, the childminder explains to children how to manoeuvre sit-and-ride toys to reduce any accidents outdoors. Supervision of children is good. The childminder ensures that children are always within her sight and hearing to ensure they get help and reassurance when needed.

Required documentation, such as the first-aid certificate, was checked during the inspection. n The inspector spoke with the childminder and interacted with children at appropriate times during the inspection. n The inspector spoke with parents on the telephone and took into account their views.
