p.1

The provision is good

Children arrive at the setting with big smiles and they feel safe and secure. Staff know the children and their families well. Children are eager to participate in activities that are based on their current interests. They investigate bugs and animals in the bug hotel using various tools, and explore the texture of play dough with pine cones, bamboo sticks, shells and stones. Children access flower painting independently and are curious as they play with ice spheres in water.

p.2

The provision is good

Staff skilfully support children's language and communication. They place prompts around the room to encourage the learning of new words. Children recall past experiences, such as posting letters, and link these memories to a storybook. There is a love of books across the setting. Children enjoy listening to stories, predicting what may happen next and retelling the story. Conversations flow between the children and staff as they wonder and imagine together.

p.2

The provision is good

Parents do not enter the setting due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, but they speak highly of the communication they receive daily in person from staff and through an online platform. Staff implement settling-in procedures effectively and use these to consider children's needs. Parents know their child's next steps for development. They praise the setting for the home-learning support during lockdown. In particular, they comment on the live bedtime story read by staff each night, of which the children still talk about.

n Singing is heard in all rooms. Children point to a song board when they want to sing a song and babies enjoy dancing to the nursery rhyme 'Sleeping Bunnies'. Staff sing a soothing lullaby to help babies drift off to sleep. Babies babble as they play and staff smile back and use soft tones when speaking to them. n Children have many opportunities to be physically active at the setting. Inside, they climb on a wooden frame and have plenty of space to jump and move. Outside, children carry large containers of water from one end of the garden to the other and make mud 'potions' with orange peels. They mix colours with paint brushes and describe to each other what they are doing. Children ride bikes and tricycles and wait patiently for their turn. n Children are kind and caring and receive praise from staff. Older children help younger children to balance on planks by holding their hands and they persevere

and problem-solve together. Children learn independence. They find their own peg, put their shoes on and choose what they want to play with. n Connections are made with children's learning indoors and outdoors. Children go on a scavenger hunt with a member of staff in the garden to find a spider's web. They draw what they see and staff record the child's descriptive language. Staff
