p.1

The provision is good

The childminder uses her knowledge and experience to create an environment where children thrive. She plans a wide range of activities, indoors and outdoors, that encourage children to explore and build on their existing knowledge. The childminder provides children with a range of freely accessible toys, and resources. Children quickly build confidence and are happy in the childminder's home. Younger children want to do things independently, expressing their own preferences. Children participate, concentrate and engage in activities well, encouraged by the childminder.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are confident and clearly express their thoughts and ideas to the childminder. The childminder values what the children have to say and gives enough time for them to think and respond to questions. She gives children plenty of praise and encouragement, which develops their self-esteem and confidence. She supports children's emotional well-being effectively.

p.2

The provision is good

Children's behaviour benefits from the childminder's consistent approach, which encourages children's good behaviour. The childminder sensitively acknowledges when children are upset, helping them to manage these feelings. Younger children begin to understand that they should share toys and equipment, gradually developing an awareness of other children's needs. For example, younger children play amicably with dolls, helping each other as they dress them.

n The childminder supports children's early language skills well. Most children speak both Russian and English and the childminder is very aware of their language needs. She checks children's understanding, for example when asking them how they are going to decorate their masks. She asks them questions and listens patiently as they respond. Young children communicate well and eagerly respond to simple questions and instructions. n The childminder works closely with parents to encourage children in their personal care and self-help skills. She meticulously ensures that all children wash their hands regularly and to understand the importance of this. The childminder understands the skills children need to learn to become ready for the next stage in their learning. Children develop their independence, for example as they learn to wash their hands and put on their shoes and coats. n The childminder prepares nutritious meals for children and promotes their good

health. She is careful about meeting their individual dietary requirements. The childminder takes children on a range of outings. She visits local parks and playgrounds regularly to enable children to be physically active and play outside in the open air.

4 June 2021 n Effective partnerships with parents support children's care and education. Parents say that their children love coming to the childminder's house and enjoy the range of developmental games and activities provided. The childminder collects information from parents when their children first start at the setting. For example, she finds out about children's interests, current levels of development and their routines. She offers them feedback about their children's progress and seeks their views on the quality of her service. n The childminder evaluates and reflects on the overall quality of her service. She ensures that children still have opportunities to play in other locations during the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. The childminder values feedback from parents and children and uses this information to develop her practice and identify areas for improvement. She completes all mandatory training. However, she has not

yet focused her professional development sufficiently on raising the good quality of teaching, to achieve even higher outcomes for children. n Children enjoy a range of interesting activities that supports their learning well. The childminder uses her skills and knowledge to identify what children need to learn next. She encourages children to develop a love of books and stories. Children sit together to look at books and excitedly identify the characters they see. This helps to promote children's enjoyment of reading. The childminder considers the activities and experiences that she provides for children. However, she does not consistently provide children with opportunities to extend their interest and skills in mathematics even further. For example, by talking about and counting the shapes used when children are making masks.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a clear understanding of her role in protecting children who may be at risk of harm. She has a good understanding of how to monitor and report any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder completes risk assessments for her home and any outings that she takes children on. She teaches children how to manage risks themselves. For example, she ensures that they know how to keep themselves safe on the road. The childminder keeps her knowledge up to date and is aware of wider child protection issues, such as radicalisation and exploitation.
