p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy and have formed good relationships with the childminder, which makes them feel safe and secure at her setting. They behave well as the childminder reminds them to share and take turns with their friends.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and assesses their development accurately. She has high expectations for children and understands the positive impact this has on children's progress. She plans activities to build on children's current interests. For example, she listens when children talk excitedly about films they enjoy watching at home and extends this by encouraging their imaginative play. Children enjoy pretending that a car is on fire and play the role of a super-hero as they 'save the car'. The childminder also tackles gender stereotypes well during discussions about super-heroes. Children persist at the activities for a long period of time.

p.2

The provision is good

Overall, the childminder works well with the parents. She regularly provides them with detailed updates about their children's day. Parents are happy with the care provided at the setting and are happy that the childminder provides hot vegetarian lunches for the children. Children are happy and settle well in the childminder's home, due to the robust settling-in procedure in place.

This helps to promote children's understanding of language and helps them develop good communication and literacy skills. n The childminder develops strategies to support children who are learning English as an additional language. They learn words and phrases so they can communicate confidently and make good progress in their communication and language skills. n The childminder reflects on her practice and evaluates the effectiveness of her

provision. She makes plans to improve her setting for the benefit of the children in her care. For example, she identifies that children would benefit from more opportunities to become independent and plans her routine to motivate and encourage children to try thing out for themselves. Children learn to manage their own personal hygiene needs and serve their own food at meal times. This

need to do better?

21 May 2021 support enables them to develop valuable skills for their future and in readiness for starting school. n There are times when the childminder doesn't emphasise the importance of healthy eating and portion sizes to the children. n The childminder works closely with the parents to keep them informed about their child's day at the setting. Parents comment positively about her. They value the regular updates that are provided for their children's key events. However, the childminder sometimes misses opportunities to inform the parents of the child's next steps, so they can support them at home better. n Children enjoy playing in the outdoor area where they get fresh air and develop their physical skills. They participate in good hygiene practices as they wash their hands, with good support and guidance from the childminder.

p.2

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe. She knows how to identify if a child is at risk of harm, including from extreme views or behaviours. She knows how to report concerns about children to the relevant agencies. The childminder completes risk assessments to ensure that the environment, resources and equipment are safe and suitable for the children to use.
