p.1

The provision is good

Children settle well at the childminder's due to effective partnerships with parents. During the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, the childminder changed her procedures to settle new children. For example, meeting in the park and offering home visits. The childminder gathers detailed information about children's care routines, development and their interests before they start with her. This helps children to settle in more quickly.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder knows the children well and has an ambitious curriculum for them. She uses her observations of children to provide meaningful experiences to extend their learning. Young children are becoming increasingly independent. For instance, children are confident at putting on their coats and shoes.

p.2

The provision is good

Children behave well. They are learning to understand the impact their actions have on others. When children show reluctance to play with other children, the childminder talks to them about feelings. This helps children to learn about respect and others' emotions. The childminder has high expectations of children's behaviour. She acts as a good role model for the children.

need to do better?

n The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and accesses training to develop her skills. She seeks the views of parents and children and uses their suggestions to make improvements. Through her own evaluation of her practice, she has identified she would like to develop her knowledge of planning more outdoor activities. This will provide more challenge for children who prefer to learn outdoors. n The childminder carries out accurate and detailed assessments of children's learning. This helps her to identify gaps in their development and target appropriate support. She shares children's progress with parents. She makes suggestions about how they can encourage their child's learning at home. For example, children can take home 'Travelling Teddy'. Parents share photographs and write about what the teddy did while in the child's home. Children enjoy recalling, sharing and discussing the bear's adventures with their peers.

p.2

need to do better?

n Children's language skills are developing well. This is because the childminder interacts and joins in with children's play. She models language, uses descriptive words and repetition and asks them questions. However, the childminder does not always give children time to think and respond before asking the next question. That said, children are confident communicators. They eagerly share information with visitors and recall activities they have enjoyed. n Children have plenty of fresh air, physical exercise and opportunities to socialise with others. For example, they visit local attractions and playgroups. The

need to do better?

25 May 2021 childminder revisits children's previous experiences to build on their learning. She has recently taught children about the importance of being kind to the environment. Children eagerly explain that they go litter picking in the local community. n The childminder has strong links with other childminders in her area, who help to support her in her work. She works effectively in partnerships with other settings children attend. The childminder regularly shares information with them. This enhances children's experiences and maintains continuity in their learning. n During the COVID-19 pandemic, the childminder has completed various activities to help children to learn more about germs. Children also sing a special song to help them know how long to spend washing their hands. n The childminder is successful at helping children develop a strong sense of self- worth. Children use mirrors to explore facial expressions and features and use

play dough to create happy and sad faces. They talk about the things that make them happy.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a secure knowledge of safeguarding and effective policies in place. She recognises the signs of potential abuse and is alert to signs that a child may be at risk of exposure to extreme views and ideas. She knows the procedures to follow to act on concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder understands the importance of keeping accurate records. For instance, she maintains detailed records of any accidents and medication given. She undertakes regular training to keep her safeguarding knowledge and practice up to date. She uses ongoing risk assessments to help her provide a safe environment for children.
