Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC457430 1 SC457430
p.1
Cambian Childcare Ltd
Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The home is owned and operated by a private provider. It provides care and accommodation for up to three children who may have social, emotional or behavioural difficulties.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The manager registered with Ofsted in October 2020.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit was carried out on site. The visit was undertaken to consider potential regulatory breaches following the sharing of information with Ofsted through safeguarding notifications. In addition, the home has not been visited since 5 June 2019, when Ofsted completed a full inspection.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Inspection activities at the monitoring visit included face-to-face discussions with children and telephone discussions with children’s families and professionals. The inspector also interviewed managers and staff and reviewed children’s case file records and documents.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The children have experienced an unsettled period in the home. One child described this period as being ‘stressful’. This has impacted on their behaviour in the home. The manager and staff have worked to address this and are responsive to the needs of children and have listened to their views. This means that children feel listened to. This has resulted in a reduction in incidents of children going missing from home and fewer periods of unacceptable behaviour.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The home environment needs some repairs as a result of damage caused during incidents. These repairs have not been actioned in a timely way. Areas of the home are not routinely cleaned to a good enough standard. This is not creating a high- quality environment or homely atmosphere for the children. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC457430 2 The children’s risk assessments do not provide staff with accurate information about the current risks or the severity of these risks. The documents have not been kept up to date and therefore do not reflect recent events or key risks for children. This means that some staff may not be aware of all risks posed to the children and they may therefore be unable to safeguard them effectively.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staff have received training in relation to issues such as county lines and criminal exploitation. However, they have not recognised the connection between missing episodes and this potential risk. This could leave children at risk of harm.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The children’s files do not always contain the correct information about the child or contact details of professionals involved with the child. There are inconsistencies in the recording of the children’s everyday lives and in the key-work sessions completed with the children. Furthermore, the manager does not always ensure that recordings are signed.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The manager and senior staff do not always notify Ofsted of all significant or serious incidents. This compromises the regulator’s ability to maintain oversight of the home or review the suitability of any actions taken to safeguard the children.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Some staff have not received supervision in line with company policy. This means that they do not have the opportunity to discuss any issues or reflect on practice. This impacts on the manager’s oversight of staff training needs and staff’s ability to carry out their role effectively.
