p.1

Information about this children’s home

This service is operated by a private provider.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The home is registered to provide care for up to two young people who may have emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. The home registered in May 2020 and has not yet received a full inspection.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This visit was instigated due to the regulator receiving information through statutory notifications which raised concerns for young people’s safety. Specifically, one young person was missing from the home for an extended period. There were further concerns that serious incidents were not shared with the regulator as required. The visit was conducted both remotely and in the home.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Young people living in this home are vulnerable to external influences. One young person has displayed some undesirable behaviours while away from the home. These have resulted in police involvement. This young person is being supported to manage and reduce these behaviours. These serious incidents were not shared with the regulator.

p.1

This monitoring visit

There have been several occasions where young people have been missing from home. An extended period of missing was of particular concern prior to this visit. During this episode, staff were persistent and proactive in locating the young person. The team’s persistence and robust investigations enabled them to locate and speak with the young person. This helped to ensure the young person’s well-being as well as their safe return to the home.

p.1

This monitoring visit

There is a plan to develop the organisation’s training and induction processes. Not all staff have received basic training, for example, health and safety, fire and medication Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: 2583518 2 training. Staff who lack this training work alone. This jeopardises the health and safety of young people living in the home. At the time of the visit, the manager was asked to review the skills and knowledge of those supporting young people and consider relevant adjustments needed to the weekly rota. This is reflected within the requirement made to address this.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Young people’s individual health needs are being met. One young person was previously reluctant to engage with support services and to attend appointments. With help from staff, this young person’s engagement has significantly increased. This young person is physically and emotionally benefitting from the use of external services.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Relationships between staff and young people are good. Managers and staff know young people well and understand their individual needs. Young people have fun with staff and enjoy family-like banter. When necessary, staff challenge young people and provide them with clear and consistent boundaries. This helps young people to feel safe, secure and cared for.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Leaders and managers have secured arrangements for young people to see family and significant others. They have managed and mitigated risks to ensure young people benefit from increased time with those who are important to them. This has served to reduce young people’s risk-taking behaviours. Furthermore, the quality of young people’s relationships is improving.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Young people like living in this home. One young person said, ‘this home is any kid’s dream home, anyone would be lucky to live here.’ Although young people are not clear on the plans for their future, the manager is liaising with relevant professionals to solidify these. This will help young people to feel a sense of security and help to prepare them for their future.
