Information about this children’s home
The manager was registered with Ofsted in September 2020 and is qualified to level 5 diploma in leadership and management.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This is the home’s first visit since it was registered in September 2020. This visit was carried out to enable the regulator to obtain an initial assessment of children’s lived experience at the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Due to the COVID 19 (coronavirus) pandemic, Ofsted did not carry out a physical visit to the home. The inspector gathered evidence in several different ways, including gaining views from children, social workers, other professionals and staff, and talking to the manager and asking her to provide electronic documents for the inspector to review.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Professionals gave positive feedback about the care given to children at the home. For example, one social worker said, ‘they are absolutely fantastic, you can’t fault them’. All professionals told the inspector how good the communication was between them.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Two children are living at the home. One child moved into the home in September 2020, and the other child in November 2020. Despite the restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both moves were well planned, and this enabled good matching to be achieved. Inspection report for children’s home – monitoring visit: 2599399 2 Children said they liked living at the home, felt supported by staff and managers. Children told the inspector that staff, spent time with them, listened to them, that they were funny, and the manager wasn’t always in the office but did things with them. As a result, children have positive relationships and are progressing well.
p.1
This monitoring visit
During the COVID-19 pandemic, staff have been creative in keeping children occupied. An exercise bike has been purchased, with staff and children having competitions to see who can cycle the furthest distance. There have been bake-off competitions, pamper nights, movie nights and walks in the local area. However, the prolonged nature of the COVID-19 pandemic has started to take its toll on one of the children. The child is becoming increasingly frustrated by the national restrictions and how these are impacting on their daily life. Staff are responding to the child well, but recognise how COVID-19 has impacted on the children’s lives.
p.2
This monitoring visit
When children go missing from the home, staff are diligent in following children’s safety plans and trying to find the children. Managers make sure that children are offered independent return home interviews. These interviews help managers to fully evaluate and understand the reasons why children have gone missing.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Managers have reviewed the home’s statement of purpose, but have omitted to send the revised version to Ofsted. This omission means that the regulator does not have up-to-date information about the home.
