Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC456942 1 SC456942

p.1

Cambian Childcare Limited

Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

This privately owned home is registered to provide care for one child with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Routine inspection activity is currently suspended because of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. This visit to the home was arranged to ensure that the child is safe. The visit was carried out on site by two inspectors. One child lives at the home and he was spoken to during the visit.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Since the previous assurance visit in October 2020, the child has continued to make progress. The inspectors observed warm relationships between the child and staff members. Observations of the child with staff were positive. He was comfortable with staff and, at the visit, he was happy to go out and play football with a member of staff.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The child’s risk assessment is up to date and includes all known risks. Risks have reduced to low. This means that staff manage risk effectively. Additionally, the staff know the child well. This means that they can identify triggers to the child’s behaviour. Staff provide the child with a consistent approach. This helps the child to feel secure.

p.1

This monitoring visit

There is no registered manager in post. The interim manager manages another home within the organisation. The interim manager has not submitted a full application despite being in post since July 2020. As a result, the regulator has been unable to assess the manager’s fitness for the role. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC456942 2 Recording in case records needs to improve to ensure that staff accurately record information. This is specifically in relation to incident reports. This is necessary to ensure that reports in relation to the child provide a full and accurate account of the incident. Not only is this important for the child’s future understanding about his time living at this home, but this is also necessary so that staff can reflect on incidents to improve their practice.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Monitoring and review systems need to be strengthened so that the manager can continue to reflect on practice. For example, the manager needs to ensure that she reviews and evaluates the child’s risk assessments to help staff improve the quality of care that they provide to the child.
