Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2542813 1

p.1

Cambian Childcare Limited

Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The home is owned and managed by a private company. The home provides care and support for one child who can no longer live at home.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The registered manager resigned from this home in March 2020.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The purpose of the visit was to explore the action taken by the interim manager following concerns raised in the external monitoring report regarding a lack of essential paperwork for the child and maintenance in the home. The monitoring visit involved both on-site and off-site inspection activity due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic restrictions. There is one child living at the home.

p.1

This monitoring visit

A child has moved into the home recently. The impact risk assessment shows that careful consideration was given to the child’s needs and whether the staff team could meet them. The interim manager has been successful in acquiring all the necessary documents to care for the child. There is an educational meeting that has not been completed, but this has been postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

p.1

This monitoring visit

There has been one safeguarding concern. When concerns arise, swift action is taken. Staff work closely with all external professionals and good records are maintained. All staff are trained in safeguarding procedures and they understand their roles and responsibilities if an incident was to occur. In addition to this, the acting manager has sought additional help, for the child, through the fire service and mental health services. The child said that this was the best home he had ever lived in.

p.1

This monitoring visit

A small part of the ceiling in the lounge collapsed. For safety reasons, the interim manager closed the lounge off and made a small lounge in the dining room for the child and staff. However, repairs to the ceiling and roof have taken a while to rectify. The interim manager said that this was because there was confusion from the Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2542813 2 maintenance team about what had caused this damage. The work has now been completed, but a new carpet is still required and there are other unattended maintenance issues around the home, such as a broken spindle in the bannister and a broken door. This does not ensure that the child lives in a comfortable and well- maintained environment.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The requirements and recommendations set at the last inspection in February 2019 were not assessed at this monitoring visit. Therefore, they have been carried over to the next inspection.
