The inspector found that managers and staff understand children’s risks. Staff ensure that the home is secure, and visitors are checked before entering the property. Staff respond appropriately when individuals of concern approach the home. Managers request access to information held by other professionals that supports managing children’s risks. Regular meetings to review children’s risks and agree actions to keep children safe are in place. Professionals who support children living in the home contribute to these meetings. This ensures that staff keep children safe.

Managers and staff respond well when children go missing from home. This includes working closely with a child’s family members. As a result, there is a reduction in the child going missing. When children do go missing, staff try to keep in contact with them and look for them. Staff support children to return home when missing. The home requests that local authorities provide children with the opportunity to speak with an independent person following each missing from home incident. This promotes the safety and well-being of children who live in the home. Records relating to children do not consistently provide up-to-date and relevant information. On one occasion, a child’s plan guided staff to encourage the child to travel independently. However, following an incident in the community, this was reviewed, and the child is now transported by staff. At the time of the inspection, staff were implementing the changes despite them not having been recorded in the child’s plans.

This monitoring visit
The registered manager supervises staff on a regular basis. This provides an opportunity to ensure that staff have the skills and training required to meet the individual needs of children who live in the home. Staff told the inspector that they feel well supported. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2530832 3
