Ofsted is aware of the challenges that COVID-19 (coronavirus) is currently posing to those we regulate. During this monitoring visit, the inspector took into consideration the impact of any measures being taken to slow the spread of COVID-19 by the home. Monitoring of this home was carried out remotely.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit was carried out due to concerns arising from notifications sent by the provider to Ofsted. The notifications identified potential concerns relating to complaints, administration of medication systems and placement decisions.
p.1
This monitoring visit
A child with significant and complex needs was placed at the home. Managers and staff were not confident at the point of admission that the child’s full range of needs could be met in the home. However, they did take steps to prioritise the care needs of the child. In prioritising the care needs of the child, there was an impact on the delivery of training and staff supervision. Some staff did not receive updated physical intervention training. Other staff were not provided with regular supervision by the manager.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Despite these issues, staff demonstrated considerable resilience, flexibility and determination in supporting the child. Managers worked closely with the child’s social worker to identify a more suitable placement. This ensured a planned and effective transition to a more appropriate service. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC036243 2 Children know how to make a complaint. However, the outcomes of complaint investigations are not always made clear to children. This means that children may lose confidence in making complaints about the care they receive.
p.1
This monitoring visit
One medication administration error has occurred. This has highlighted a weakness in medication processes. Managers have taken action to address this weakness, including further training and increased monitoring of staff.
