Inspection report for children’s home – monitoring visit: SC456959 1 SC456959
p.1
Cambian Childcare Ltd
Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This is a privately owned children’s home. It is registered to provide care and accommodation for one child with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
There is a registered manager in post. He also manages another setting within the organisation.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This visit was arranged due to escalating concerns from recent notifications, specifically in relation to self-injurious behaviour.
p.1
This monitoring visit
One child lives at this home. The child told the inspector that she likes living at the home and that this is the best home she has lived in. She said that she feels safe at home and that she gets on well with staff.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staff demonstrate an understanding of the child’s current risks and how to manage them. This is specifically in relation to self-injurious behaviour. Staff describe strategies used to support the child. For example, a member of staff has a friend who owns a horse. The child enjoys seeing the horse and staff take her to spend time with the horse and use this as an opportunity to talk to the child.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Although staff demonstrate an understanding of the child’s risks, risk assessments are not up to date and do not include specific strategies for staff to use to reduce risk. For example, a clear trigger for the child is when she feels anxious. The child told the inspector that she feels anxious at night-time and that she often struggles to sleep. However, there is no clear plan in place to guide staff to support the child and reduce this risk of self-injurious behaviour at night-time.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The manager needs to improve his overall monitoring and review systems. This is in respect of his oversight and evaluation of incidents to understand the impact that Inspection report for children’s home – monitoring visit: SC456959 2 the quality of care is having on the child. This is necessary to ensure that the manager and staff can improve the quality of care for the child. For example, the manager needs to evaluate incidents to try to understand the triggers for the child that can lead to self-injurious behaviours.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Although the manager does notify Ofsted about serious incidents that have occurred in the home, he did not notify Ofsted about a recent serious incident. This means that Ofsted cannot monitor what is happening in the home effectively.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The statement of purpose is not sent to Ofsted as per regulation. This means that Ofsted does not have the most up-to-date information in relation to the children’s home.
