Children enjoy a high standard of care. They receive individualised care which helps them to make progress from their starting points. Two children live at the home and both have received considerable progress. They have developed an increased level of stability and enjoy positive relationships with caring staff. Examples of progress include a reduction in missing from home episodes. The need for restraint is very rare as children’s behaviour has stabilised and they are better able to regulate and communicate their feelings in more positive ways. In addition, one of the children has returned to full-time education from a point where professionals, who knew the child, thought this was not possible.

This monitoring visit

A comprehensive up-to-date Covid-19 risk assessment and plan are in place. These include actions to minimise risks of Covid-19 in the home, as well as plans for continuity of care in the event of an outbreak.

This monitoring visit

Behaviour and risk management plans for children are clear. Risks are identified and staff receive clear guidance about how to manage and reduce these risks. In addition, good partnership working means there is a coordinated response to risk.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Children rarely go missing from home. This is a significant achievement as prior to coming to live at the home, children had frequently gone missing and had been at risk of exploitation. Staff know how to respond to missing-from-home incidents when they happen. Clear plans mean that staff know where to look for children and who to contact to bring about a child’s quick and safe return. As a result, children are significantly safer from risks of child exploitation.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The use of physical intervention to keep children and others safe is extremely rare. In recent months, there has only been one such incident. Staff responded effectively, and the incident was followed up with a debrief with both the child and staff to understand and learn from what had happened.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The new registered manager benefited from a well-considered transition and effective handover from the previous manager. These included shadowing the previous manager, ensuring that key guidance documents were shared and understood, and introductions were made to key external partners.
