Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

This home is an adolescent support service provided by a local authority, with the aim of helping children and families at times of crises. It provides short- and medium-term care for up to four children who may have emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. It also provides emergency or overnight care for up to a further two children. In addition, the service provides intensive, time-limited support to children on the edge of care. This includes planned day visits for children and outreach support for their families.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The home is led by an experienced manager who registered with Ofsted in June 2020.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This monitoring visit was carried out in response to concerns raised by the independent person through a regulation 44 report. These concerns were in relation to the ability of the home to keep the one child currently living at the home safe in the community. The monitoring visit was carried out off site. The inspector viewed the child’s case records electronically and spoke with the child and relevant professionals via video and telephone calls.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The home has not had a full inspection since starting to work with children and families under a new statement of purpose in June 2020. A monitoring visit was completed in November 2020. That initial visit did not identify any serious or widespread safeguarding concerns. No requirements or recommendations were made as a result of the visit.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This monitoring visit found that safeguarding practice in the home is effective. Staff have a detailed understanding of the risks faced by the child in the community. Well- considered written plans and assessments support staff to manage and reduce risks for the child. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC040511 2 Proactive and creative working practices are in place, involving staff at the home and a range of community services, including the missing-from-care team, the police and the local authority neighbourhood team. Good information-sharing between agencies contributes to keeping the child safe when he is not in the home.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The child told the inspector that he valued living in his own community. In his view, he was less likely to go missing from care when being cared for in a home close to his family and friends. The child’s case records evidence that there has been a gradual improvement in the child’s engagement with the staff at the home. This is significant progress, given the child’s history and current needs.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The home is working effectively in line with its statement of purpose to provide care to children at a time of crisis to promote their longer-term stability. No recommendations or requirements are made as a result of this monitoring visit.
