p.1

Cambian Childcare LTD

Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

This children’s home is operated by a large private company. It provides care and accommodation for one child.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The registered manager left the home in December 2020 and a new manager was appointed. The manager is registered to manage another home owned by the company. This home also provides care and accommodation for one child. The manager has applied to Ofsted to be registered to manage this home as well as continuing to manage the other home.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This monitoring visit was carried out as the home has not had an inspection since June 2019. During this time, the same young person has been living at the home, but the manager has changed. The visit was carried out remotely through discussions with the manager and a review of relevant documentation.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The current manager started managing the home in December 2020. She has previously worked at the home as a deputy and benefitted from a comprehensive handover period with the former manager. This has meant that any potential negative impact on the young person and the small staff team has been carefully considered and managed.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The small staff team of three provides good continuity and consistency. Each member of staff is suitably qualified and experienced and works with the young person on a one-to-one basis. They are supported by the manager and deputy who divide their time equally and separately between the two homes that they are responsible for managing. The manager is mindful of the importance of ensuring that she has full oversight of both homes. A review of records of serious incidents during this monitoring visit confirmed that records are comprehensive and evidence a good level of management oversight. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC457567 2 The manager is part-way through a Level 5 diploma in the management of residential childcare settings and the deputy will commence this qualification on successful completion of his probationary period as a deputy manager.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The young person has lived at the home for nearly three years. During this period, she has made excellent progress in keeping herself safe, in her education, her relationships with family and in her independent skills. Plans are in place for her to move to a semi-supported setting in the local area prior to her eighteenth birthday. The young person did not want to contribute to the monitoring visit as she had recently had some upsetting news, but her social worker commented on the ‘huge progress’ she had made since living there. She also felt that the team works effectively with her and the young person to address any concerns as they arise.

p.2

This monitoring visit

There were no shortfalls identified during this monitoring visit and no requirements or recommendations have been made.
