Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC457074 1 SC457074
p.1
Cambian Childcare Limited
Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This is a privately owned children’s home that provides care and accommodation for four young people up to the age of 18 years old with social and/or emotional difficulties.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The manager was registered with Ofsted in May 2020 and is currently working towards completing her level 5 diploma in leadership and management.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The home was last inspected in June 2019. This monitoring visit was carried out to enable the regulator to obtain an up-to-date assessment of children’s experiences at the home since the last inspection.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Due to the COVID 19 (coronavirus) pandemic, Ofsted did not carry out a physical visit to the home. The inspector gathered evidence in several different ways, including gaining views from children, social workers, other professionals and staff, and talking to the manager and asking her to provide electronic documents for the inspector to review.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Since the last inspection, there has been a change of manager at the home. The previous manager left in June 2019. A new manager is in post and is registered with Ofsted. She is a child-focused practitioner who advocates well for the children. Consequently, children feel well supported and listened to.
p.1
This monitoring visit
During the COVID-19 pandemic, staff have needed to be creative in finding ways of keeping children busy. A gym has been created in the garage which has encouraged children to keep fit. Children have also benefited from having parties and themed weeks. For example, children have participated in a vegan week, pamper sessions, Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC457074 2 and have got involved in the weekly clap for carers, including making banners thanking the NHS.
p.1
This monitoring visit
However, the prolonged nature of the COVID-19 pandemic is now resulting in children becoming increasingly frustrated. Consequently, children are becoming unsettled despite all the efforts made by the staff.
p.2
This monitoring visit
When children have gone missing from the home, staff are diligent in following children’s safety plans and trying to find them. Managers have made sure that children are offered independent return home interviews. These help managers to fully evaluate and understand the reasons why children have decided to go missing.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff understand the importance in helping children to stay in touch with their families and friends. When it has been necessary due to restrictions imposed by COVID-19, the staff have used technology to enable children to keep in touch with their families.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff actively encourage school attendance. They have provided support in school to maintain children’s attendance and help with children’s learning at home when children’s schools have not been fully open due to COVID-19 restrictions. This encouragement has enabled children who have previously struggled to attend school to now attend and participate.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Managers have worked hard to meet the requirement and recommendations from the last inspection. Managers now have greater oversight of incidents which required the use of physical intervention and are better at considering children’s cultural needs pre-admission.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Managers have completed a review of the quality of care of the home but have omitted to send the report to Ofsted. This omission means that the regulator is unable to fully assess the quality of care given to children between inspections.
