Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: 1259216 1
p.1
One To One Crisis Intervention Ltd
Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The home provides care and accommodation for one child who may have emotional and/or behavioural difficulties and/or learning difficulties.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The registered manager is suitably experienced and qualified and is solely responsible for managing this home. She works directly with the child as part of a small care team.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit was carried out following a new child moving into the home and a number of incidents that subsequently occurred. The visit was carried out remotely, through discussions with the registered manager and a review of relevant documentation.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The child was spoken to briefly, but he did not want to participate in the monitoring visit process. He had completed a questionnaire, as had his parents and an external professional. Overall, feedback was positive from all sources. The child said he felt safe living at the home. His parents agreed that the home kept their son safe and the social worker said she felt the home was making a positive difference to the child’s life.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Several incidents occurred during the initial four weeks of the child living in the home. There were three occasions when the child went missing and four other incidents, three of which resulted in staff calling the police for support. Since the middle of December, there have been no further serious incidents. The manager feels that the small team of three staff, including herself, have forged positive relationships with the child. He is clear about expectations and has engaged well with them and in education. The time that the child can spend with his family has also increased recently and includes overnight visits. This is under constant review with the aim to increase it as further progress is made. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: 1259216 2 The records of all incidents were examined during this monitoring visit. It is evident that staff responded appropriately in difficult circumstances and with a child that

they were at an early stage of getting to know. The use of the police is not considered lightly by the home but, given the gravity of the situations the team found themselves in at times, appears considered and proportionate in order to keep the child and themselves safe from harm. The manager and staff have worked, and continue to work, effectively with a range of professionals and specialist services.
p.2
This monitoring visit
One requirement was made as a result of this monitoring visit. Following an examination of incident records, the inspector raised the importance of management oversight comments. These should be more explicit about what reflection has taken place, including lessons learned, and specifically in relation to a child going missing and what could be done to prevent this occurring again. The inspector also clarified that if the manager was directly involved in serious incidents, then the responsible individual should provide her with an opportunity for a debrief as well as providing oversight of the incident, both of which should be fully documented.
