Information about this children’s home
This privately operated home provides care for up to four children and young people aged up to 18 years with a learning disability. The registered manager has been registered with Ofsted since the home was registered in November 2019.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit was carried out because of a number of notifications relating to allegations made against staff and because the home has not been visited since it began caring for children. At the time of this visit, three children were living in the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring inspection included a visit to the home to speak with the children and staff, and to check the environment. In response to the current COVID-19 (coronavirus) lockdown restrictions, a review of the records and discussions with professionals took place remotely.

This monitoring visit
Children shared with the inspector that they like living at this home and enjoy the food. They did not raise any concerns about the care that staff provide. Staff ensure that children’s bedrooms are personalised to meet their needs. For example, children have chosen to paint their bedrooms with bright colours and have decorated them with soft toys and themed posters.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staff support children to express their wishes and feelings and ensure that children are given time to have meaningful conversations about their worries. For example, staff help children to express their thoughts about their identity and past trauma. Staff also talk with children to help them understand about how to treat others and to look after animals. Subsequently, children make improvements with their emotional and behavioural development. Inspection report for children’s home – monitoring visit: 2557920 2 Behaviour is managed well by staff because behaviour management plans provide clear actions to staff in managing behaviours that adults find challenging. Staff provide children with clear guidance and boundaries that enable them to improve their sleep patterns and to attend education consistently. Risk management plans help staff to understand children’s past behaviours and how to prioritise their safety.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The registered manager has effective monitoring and oversight of incidents. For example, he swiftly reviews incidents of physical restraint and addresses any concerns with staff practice. The registered manager makes clear his expectations and reminds staff of these in team meetings. Consequently, this helps staff to better manage children’s emotions when they feel angry and to reduce incidents from escalating.
p.2
This monitoring visit
During the current period of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, staff have supported children to keep in touch with their families and carers where appropriate. Staff encourage children to have face-to-face contact where possible and use a range of online approaches to enable children to maintain family links.
p.2
This monitoring visit
One child has recently made a complaint via email to the responsible individual about how he is spoken to by other children and how this upsets him. The responsible individual responded to the complaint immediately and met with the child. During this inspection, she met with the other children to understand their perspectives of what has happened. She talked about how to treat others and to be respectful. The inspector reviewed records of staff talking with children to help them improve their relationships with others.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The manager has effective systems in place to ensure that staff complete mandatory training. For example, there is a detailed spreadsheet to monitor staff training and identify gaps. As a result of this pandemic, some face-to-face training has been delayed. However, dates have been secured for those staff who need to complete mandatory training in safeguarding, restraint and first-aid training. The registered manager ensures that staff have the necessary qualifications to care for children and supports new staff to gain the qualification as soon as possible.
