Crystal Care Solutions Limited
Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The home is registered to provide care and accommodation for four young people who may have emotional and/or behavioural difficulties and/or learning disabilities. A private company owns this home.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The registered manager has been in post since August 2016.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This visit took place following safeguarding notifications relating to one young person exhibiting suicidal ideation, resulting in frequent hospitalisation. Another young person was able to bypass the home’s online security to access illicit material, which required police involvement.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The inspector conducted off-site activity and set up video calls with staff and young people. Three young people were resident at the time of the inspection. The inspector was able to speak to two of the young people.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Young people say that they are happy and feel supported by staff. One young person said that out of all the previous children’s homes that he has lived in, this one is ‘the best’. Staff are proactive and get things done. Young people are helped and supported by staff to develop a better understanding of their behaviours through discussion in detailed key-work sessions. Mediation between young people quickly resolves any disagreements they have, which creates an empathic environment in the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The young people who live in this home have complex histories. All young people follow a programme of care that ensures strict monitoring of behaviours and oversight by a clinical forensic team. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC460800 2 Risk assessments, behaviour support plans and safety plans have input from the clinical and therapeutic team. This helps staff to have a clearer understanding of the risks alongside associated behaviour. Consequently, staff support young people to help increase their understanding of risk-taking behaviour and the consequences of their actions.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Safety plans are in place to manage electronic devices. Following an occasion whereby in-house security for personal devices was bypassed by one resident, senior managers acted swiftly to manage this incident. Internal procedures have been revised and risk assessments have been updated. A detailed key-work session has been completed, which factors in the young person’s level of understanding. Staff have assisted with police investigation, and all professionals have been alerted. There will be ongoing monitoring as this young person progresses towards independence.
p.2
This monitoring visit
There is evidence of good multi-agency working with professionals and detailed recording of minutes, including strategy meetings. Prompt action is taken to inform the placing authority and the police if there are concerns. Staff work alongside the advice and guidance from key professionals.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Significant events involving young people resident in the home have not been reported to Ofsted. A failure to share information with all relevant people compromises the safety and welfare of young people. Furthermore, the regulator is unable to carry out its monitoring function to ensure that all appropriate action is taken by the provider to safeguard young people.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The home continues to be managed by a skilled and competent manager. The registered manager has an in-depth understanding of the needs of young people in her care. All young people are engaged in education and/or training that meets their aspirations to pursue careers in their chosen interests.
