p.1

This monitoring visit

This monitoring visit was undertaken to assess whether children living at this service are safe. Due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, the visit was undertaken remotely, with systems in place to gather the information required.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Parents undergoing assessments are very much involved in the placement planning process. Assessments are individualised depending on the issues set out in the referral documentation, and in consultation with the placing authority. This means that parents are clear on expectations and are supported by staff throughout their time at the family centre.

p.1

This monitoring visit

There has been an occasion when parenting assessment notes have been misplaced or mistakenly destroyed. Action has been taken to rectify this shortfall. However, this error could have resulted in professional challenge of the overall validity of the assessment. Inspection report for residential family centre – monitoring visit: Project Phoenix Ltd 2 Any issues raised by parents, professionals or staff are important. They are discussed and if necessary investigated. This promotes an open culture of good practice and embeds confidence that matters are taken seriously.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Staff are well supported in all aspects of their work. They receive monthly supervision, both individually and as a group. Peer-on-peer supervision is facilitated by an independent person. This means that staff are able to focus on their well- being and share experiences in a safe environment. As one member of staff said: ‘Having this time and space really helps me to focus on the families I am working with.’

p.2

This monitoring visit

Much importance is placed on recruiting individuals with a range of skills, experience and transferrable qualifications. This helps to ensure that families are supported by skilled and knowledgeable staff.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Staff have access to a range of training opportunities, both face to face and online. This means that staff are more informed when working with parents who have experienced domestic abuse, mental health problems and childhood trauma.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The home presents as warm and welcoming, having recently been decorated and refurbished. Photographs of families both past and present give it a more homely atmosphere. This helps parents and their children to feel more at ease and comfortable in their surroundings.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Appropriate COVID-19 safety measures are in place. These include cleaning routines, using disposable paper towel dispensers and undertaking twice-daily temperature checks. This means that as much as possible is done to better protect parents, staff and children from contracting the virus.

p.2

This monitoring visit

There have been gaps in regulation 25 reports being completed and submitted in accordance with regulations. This shortfall means that independent scrutiny of the residential family centre is lacking. The responsible individual has rectified this and has since appointed an independent visitor. Inspection report for residential family centre – monitoring visit: Project Phoenix Ltd 3
