This children’s home is operated by a national private provider. According to the home’s statement of purpose, it can provide residential care for up to two young people ranging from birth to 18 years who may have emotional and/or behavioural needs.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The registered manager has been in post since 2018. The previous inspection of this home took place on the 6 December 2019.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The purpose of this monitoring visit is to predominantly examine the management of missing incidents and the impact of these on children. There is currently only one child living at the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This visit was carried out virtually in line with Ofsted’s current practice guidance regarding the COVID -19 (coronavirus) pandemic. The home itself is ensuring the safety of the child and staff by adhering to strict hygiene practices and monitoring systems.
p.1
This monitoring visit
There had been eleven incidents of the child going missing since they moved into the home in the summer. There have been no incidents of the child going missing since November.
p.1
This monitoring visit
It is evident that this notable reduction is due to the child building key relationships with staff. They are also supported by staff to rebuild important relationships with family members. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC489223 2 The response to managing incidents of the child going missing has also improved. Return home interviews are offered and opportunities to learn from the child’s views are taken.
p.1
This monitoring visit
There has been one significant safeguarding incident since the last inspection. This was well managed, and the best interests of the child were promoted.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Children’s records are of a good standard. Guidance for staff in respect of how to meet the child’s needs is clear. It is also positive that the child’s voice is integral throughout the documents.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Overall, rewards and consequences to manage behaviour are appropriate and have helped to provide important boundaries for the child. On two occasions, the police have been asked to speak with the child about his behaviours. This is an institutional approach and not in line with the emotional needs of the child.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The child is not currently engaged in enough educational hours. However, it is evident that the registered manager is strongly advocating for the child in this respect. They will be moving to a new school soon and the child is provided with several alternative educational opportunities each week.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Very positive feedback regarding the care provided by staff to the child was provided by their social worker. They stated that the child’s care needs are fully met by staff and did not highlight any areas for development.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The child will be moving on to a foster home soon. This transition has been delayed due to external circumstances. The child is fully supported to manage this change in their care by the registered manager and her team.
