This monitoring visit

Admissions to the home are well planned, and a high level of consideration is given to ensuring that there is an appropriate mix of young people. Risk assessments and pre-placement meetings show that admission decisions are carefully considered. In addition to this, young people have moved out of the home in a planned manner.

As a result, the young people are fully engaging in education, in activities in the home and being Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC456964 2 involved in daily tasks in the home, such as cooking. Records show that there is a clear account of all the action taken, the outcome and the participation of the young person involved.

This monitoring visit

Staff demonstrate a good understanding of their role in safeguarding young people, including risk-taking and behaviour management. Young people said that they feel safe living in the home. Young people’s risk assessments are individualised and regularly reviewed and updated by staff. However, there was one occasion when a young person let her a friend into the home without the staff’s knowledge. Risk assessments have been updated, and managers should ensure that staff follow the strategies set out in the assessment to keep young people safe.
