p.1

This monitoring visit

This monitoring visit was undertaken using video calls due to the COVID – 19 (coronavirus) pandemic. The visit was prompted by the need for reassurance that a baby’s health needs were being managed effectively and parents are treated fairly. The provider had also not been sending in their monthly independent visitor reports to Ofsted, as required.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This visit involved the inspector examining medication records, risk assessments, the complaint record, parents’ evaluations of their teaching sessions and the assessment process, the staff training matrix and the independent visitor’s reports. The inspector held discussions with the registered manager and the staff team on duty. Feedback was also received from all the parents living at the centre, all of their social workers and the independent visitor.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Staff support parents effectively to meet their babies health needs and specific medical conditions. A social worker praised the health support given, describing staff as being ‘proactive’ in ‘emergency situations’. Staff benefit from receiving expert guidance, which ensures that they can respond effectively if a baby has a seizure. Inspection report for residential family centre – monitoring visit: Granary Families Assessment Centre 2 Parents may feel that they are being treated unfairly as a result of the safeguarding procedures that are followed at the centre. However, it was clear that these procedures, and any associated decision-making, correctly focus on protecting children. When parents do complain, their concerns are taken seriously and appropriate action is taken. Not all parents, however, know how to complain.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Staff speak to parents respectfully, and feedback from parents highlights that staff are ‘really nice’. An issue with a staff member has been managed effectively through the complaints procedure. Staff also benefit from receiving conflict-resolution training, which helps with maintaining positive relationships with families.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Generally, parents are well supported, and there are a wide range of educational sessions to enhance their parenting, self-development and life skills. There is an issue with regard to ensuring that parents who speak English as an additional language are given an appropriate level of emotional support.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Ofsted is unable to ensure that the setting is being effectively monitored, as the monthly independent visitor reports have not been sent to Ofsted promptly. Two reports were given to the inspector during this visit.

p.2

This monitoring visit

This visit concludes that there has been a breach in regulation, in relation to not sending the monthly independent visitor reports to Ofsted. There are no current safeguarding concerns. Recommendations are made to ensure that parents know how to complain, and that they receive the necessary emotional support. A requirement has been repeated from the last inspection, as it was not examined during this visit. This requirement relates to staff recruitment.
