Inspection report for children’s home – monitoring visit: 1183936 1
p.1
Acorn Homes (UK) Limited
Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This privately operated home provides care and accommodation for up to six young people. The home’s statement of purpose states that the home offers placements for children and young people with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. Placements are generally medium term to long term.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The manager has been registered with Ofsted since 2020.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Ofsted conducted this monitoring visit to the home after receiving a complaint on 28 January 2021. This information was received following an off-site monitoring visit which concluded on 26 January 2021.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This visit was conducted via telephone conversations with staff and parents, and meetings with staff and young people in the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The visit did not identify anything that supported the concerns reported or had an impact on the care offered to young people.
p.1
This monitoring visit
During this visit, the inspector did not review the requirements and recommendations set at the last visit. These have been restated and an additional recommendation has been made at this visit.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The manager has not always informed Ofsted about significant events. For example, Ofsted was not informed of a young person going missing from the home for two nights.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staff acknowledged previous difficulties at the home. They described these as concerns about the dynamics of the staff team and some bullying behaviour, both of which had an impact on the young people and the staff. Inspection report for children’s home – monitoring visit: 1183936 2 Staff felt that these concerns had abated over the last two months and the home is now a much calmer environment. Staff reported that they were feeling proud of the achievements and progress of the young people.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staff are not offered an exit interview when they leave the employment of the home. This limits the opportunity for managers to evaluate the staff’s concerns and act accordingly to improve any issues raised.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Young people and parents echoed the views of staff. One young person commented, ‘It’s much better now, nothing really gets on my nerves anymore.’
