Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC484830 1 SC484830

p.1

Albrighton Care Limited

Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The home is registered to provide care for two children. The home provides care and accommodation for children with learning disabilities. The home is privately owned.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The manager has been registered with Ofsted since August 2020. He is currently completing a level 5 qualification in leadership and management for residential childcare.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This monitoring visit took place as the home has not been inspected since July 2019. The monthly visits carried out by the independent visitor have not provided Ofsted with enough assurance about the quality of the care being provided to children.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic and an assessment of potential risk factors, this monitoring visit was completed remotely. This visit has identified that children are well cared for.

p.1

This monitoring visit

There are currently two children living in the home. Children are cared for by a supportive and caring staff team who know them well. This means that children get all the help that they need to make progress.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Staff have a good knowledge of children’s potential vulnerabilities and understand how best to keep them safe. This contributes to children feeling settled and well cared for.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Children say that they feel safe and are happy living in the home. A social worker told the inspector that one child has ‘learned to share his feelings with staff’ and said, ‘This is one of the best homes I have worked with. Staff know the children so well.’ Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC484830 2 Both children attend school. For one child this is particularly significant, as he has struggled in the past to attend school regularly. Managers and staff communicate well with school staff. This collaborative approach has supported children to make good educational progress. The registered manager has also advocated for one child to have an education assessment to ensure that he receives the support he needs.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Staff are successful at encouraging positive behaviours in the home. However, some isolated examples of staff practice are not well considered. For example, staff routinely remove the aerial from one child’s television each night to promote good sleep routines and prevent him from watching his television in the night. This behaviour management approach is not consistent with his age, maturity or current behaviours.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Staff say that they feel supported by the registered manager. This is because the manager is available and approachable. As a result, they can seek support and guidance when they need it.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The registered manager’s monitoring of the care provided to children is good. Despite this, he does not have up-to-date information about the training completed by staff. This means that he is not aware if staff have completed training within the required timescales. To date, this has not had any noticeable impact on the quality of care provided to children.
