Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC063978 1 SC063978
p.1
City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council
Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The home is owned and managed by a local authority. It provides care and accommodation for up to six children and/or young people with a range of social, emotional and behavioural needs. The manager has been registered since May 2017.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Owing to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, the home has not received an inspection visit since March 2020. The purpose of this visit was to focus on children’s and young people’s safety and their experiences given the concerns identified in the independent visitor’s report. This includes a rise in children’s and young people’s risk-taking behaviours and them setting off the fire alarms at the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Impact risk assessments show how the manager carefully matches new children or young people with the existing peer group. This process remains comprehensive for those children and young people who need to move in without prior notice. The manager’s effective planning arrangements limit the disruption to those children and young people already living at the home. This has led to children and young people settling into the home quickly.
p.1
This monitoring visit
On occasions, the children and young people struggle to manage their emotions, but they can talk to staff about their feelings. Staff educate the children about the dangers of their actions. This has led to a reduction in the children’s and young people’s risk-taking behaviours.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The provider has responded proactively to risk relating to fire safety at the home. The local fire service officer was unable to complete their planned visit to the home due to the pandemic lockdown restrictions. However, the local police spoke to the children and young people to reinforce the dangers linked to setting off fire alarms. This work has resulted in no further incidents of this nature. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC063978 2 All the children and young people are engaged in their education plan and are attending schools or colleges. This has continued throughout the latest lockdown period. The stakeholders spoken to during this visit indicated that the children and young people are settled and happy. The children and young people that were spoken to also confirmed this. One said, ‘Staff are very fair. Their decisions make sense and so do the rules.’
