Information about this children’s home
This home was last inspected in October 2019.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit was undertaken because of questions arising from the independent visitor’s reports about staff training and the care, education and engagement of a young person. In addition, the independent visitor stated that they did not have consent to review young people’s records. One report referred to a safeguarding event that the regulator was not aware of. The requirements set at the previous inspection were also reviewed.
p.1
This monitoring visit
An inspector completed this visit remotely to review records, interview staff and consult with social workers, young people and a parent, and also met in person with young people in the home and toured the accommodation.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Young people’s plans are generally of a good quality. They are detailed and provide clear guidance to staff about how to meet young people’s needs. There is a record of the progress made by young people, but the team is not consistently recording the approach to engaging them. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC420410 2 Since the previous inspection, two new young people have successfully moved into the home. Young people are supported to move in in a sensitive and respectful way; this helps to minimise anxiety. This work is supported by good-quality impact risk assessments as well as discussions with the young people already living at the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Despite the restrictions arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, staff successfully help young people to move on to the next stage of their lives. For some, this includes moving back with their families. Staff provide ongoing support to both the young person and their families. One young person and their parent said staff have ‘been amazing and brilliant’, and ‘they have been a massive support’. This view was supported by other professionals, who praised the staff for the progress young people are making.
p.2
This monitoring visit
All young people have an allocated educational provision. Staff are successfully supporting young people to re-engage in education.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Young people are cared for by a knowledgeable and well-trained staff team. Leaders and managers have arranged for staff to receive bespoke training that is relevant to the young people’s needs.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers have met three of the four previous requirements that were set at the last inspection. The requirement that is not met relates to the notification of significant events. Leaders and managers failed to notify Ofsted of a safeguarding event. They did report this event to all other required authorities, took appropriate actions to safeguard the young person and maintained clear detailed records of their actions.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Since the previous inspection, a new independent visitor has been appointed. There has been an ongoing issue regarding the young people not giving consent for the independent visitor to access their files. This has limited the effectiveness of the role of the independent visitor in assisting leaders and managers to make improvements. This issue was resolved during this visit by the leaders and managers rewriting the young person’s consent form. This now provides clear information for the young people on what information the independent person will access. This has led to young people now giving their consent.
