Information about this children’s home
This home is privately owned and run. It is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to three children or young people who may have emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit was carried out in response to an increased number of notifications received by Ofsted. The notifications related to the emotional health of some young people in placement. This visit was conducted both on- and off-site and included feedback from some of the young people.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Young people living at the home experience highly complex emotional difficulties that can result in behaviours that pose a risk to their safety and welfare. Young people are supported by a team of staff who work in a multi-disciplinary way to deliver individualised and sensitive care. As a result, young people receive support that is informed and responsive to the distress they may feel.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The manager and staff work well with other agencies, such as child and adolescent mental health services, in-house psychological services and local authority social workers. The staff keep the safety plans for young people under regular review. When the risks faced by young people increase, those plans are subject to multi- disciplinary scrutiny and any immediate concerns are shared in a timely manner with the relevant agencies.
p.1
This monitoring visit
One professional commenting about the care of their young person said: ‘The staff go above and beyond. They listen to what her needs are and think about what does and doesn’t work. They listen to me and other professionals.’ Another professional commented: ‘Staff are really doing a fantastic job. They follow the risk management plan very, very well.’ Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC477939 2 Young people have access to the specialised help that they need, and staff place young people at the centre of their practice. Young people who have lived at the home for longer periods of time learn to trust the staff, and their sense of safety and well-being increases. As a result, their propensity to want to harm themselves significantly diminishes.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staff are persistent and creative in supporting young people to regularly attend education. However, not all young people have routines that would support daily attendance at training, education or work, due to their internet use at night. This practice has not been subject to review or scrutiny.
p.2
This monitoring visit
