Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The home is privately owned and is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to two children.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The registered manager has been in post since September 2020.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This is the home’s first visit since registration in September 2020. This was carried out to enable the regulator to obtain an initial assessment of children’s lived experience at the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Ofsted did not physically visit the home. Instead, the inspector gathered evidence in several different ways, including talking to the manager, the young person’s family and members of staff. The manager also provided electronic documents for the inspector to review.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Since registration, one young person has moved into the home. The young person has settled in quickly and has developed good relationships with the staff.
p.1
This monitoring visit
During the current national lockdown, the young person has been able to have regular telephone and video calls with people who are important to him. As a result, the young person has maintained relationships that are important for his sense of identity.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staffing levels are appropriate to meet the young person’s needs. Staff are supported through regular supervision, annual appraisal and training.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The home’s response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has been effective. Clear risk management strategies are in place. Appropriate checks are carried out when visitors come to the home and regular reviews are undertaken to meet the Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2599480 2 current guidance. These measures contribute to ensuring that the young person remains safe and healthy.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staff are helping the young person to learn how some behaviours and situations may place him at risk of harm. The staff involve the young person in looking at the risks to his safety, and they work together to identify ways to manage and reduce these risks.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Despite the positive work, managers and staff do not always ensure that risk assessments are accurate. For example, the young person was scored as being at high risk of going missing from care. The evidence to support this was an example of when he was last missing from care. However, from discussions with the manager and the young person, it was noted that he had not been missing from the home. This means that staff are referring to risk assessments that are incorrect.
p.2
Statutory requirements
This section sets out the actions that the registered person(s) must take to meet the Care Standards Act 2000, Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the children’s homes regulations including the quality standards’. The registered person must comply within the given timescales.
