Information about this children’s home

The organisation operates a registered school on the same site.

Information about this children’s home
The manager was registered with Ofsted in March 2019.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit was undertaken due to concerns raised with Ofsted in relation to the behaviour management at the home and also due to escalating concerns from safeguarding notifications. These concerns related to significant incidents where children and staff had been assaulted. Most of these incidents involved a child who had recently come to live in the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The inspector spoke to all of the children living in the home, the responsible individual, the registered manager, the deputy manager, the in-house therapist and some of the residential care staff.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The children were, on the whole, positive about their experience of living in the home and reported positive relationships with staff. Some children are anxious about the recent events and expressed feeling fearful. The manager of the home is well aware of how all of the children are experiencing care in the home. There are measures in place to provide reassurance to the children and to reduce the risk of further incidents occurring.
p.1
This monitoring visit
There are sufficient staff to support and care for the children. Children reported that they welcomed the recent additions to the staff team and got on well with them. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: 1263129 2 The child who recently moved into the home had the opportunity to meet and get to know staff and the other children prior to moving in. The staff planned his move well and carefully considered a range of information to ensure that they could meet his needs. They also took into account the needs of the children already living in the home. They considered a range of factors in order to be satisfied that the child moving into the home would fit in well.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Despite this careful planning, the placement was not able to meet this child’s needs within the group of children already living in the home. This was, in part, because some aspects of his behaviour were not fully understood or explored in depth prior to him coming to live in the home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The staff team has been resilient in the face of recent challenging incidents. They report being well supported by the management team and they demonstrate a strong commitment to ‘do the right thing’ for children.
