Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC455864 1 SC455864
p.1
Enhanced Young Persons Care Ltd
Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This children’s home is owned and operated by a private organisation. It is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to eight children and/or young people with social, emotional or mental health difficulties and/or mental disorders excluding learning disabilities.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The suitably qualified manager was registered with Ofsted in March 2018.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Ofsted carried out a monitoring visit to this home, after receiving notifications relating to the care of one child. The visit took place during a period of national restrictions due to the impact of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Most children are happy in this home. They build warm relationships with members of staff and with each other; many live in the home for a long time. Children are proud of the home and want others to view it positively. Most children enjoy nice experiences and make good progress from their starting points.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Children take part in a wide range of creative and fun activities. Members of staff want to provide good-quality care and are committed to looking after the children well.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Children rarely go missing from this home. For some children, this is reflective of the significant progress that they have made. There are no serious issues relating to substance misuse or matters of exploitation. Members of staff talk to children about the potential risks to their safety. As a result, children learn about their own vulnerabilities and this helps them to become safer. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC455864 2 One child had a poor experience of this home. Members of staff did not understand the impact of trauma on this child. This meant that the child did not receive the quality of care that they needed, and they became increasingly unsettled. This child moved to another home when the registered manager gave urgent notice on the placement. This rapid move compounded an existing turbulent experience of being in care.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The child’s behaviour became challenging for the staff team to manage. Consequences became punitive and were not effective. The other children in the home were upset by the impact of the child’s behaviour. The inability of all members of staff, including leaders and managers, to understand and meet the needs of this child affected everyone in the home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The child did not have a positive experience of leaving this home. Too much uncorroborated information was shared with the child. For too long, the child did not know when they were going to move from this home or where they would be moving to. The actions of the wider local authority were not conducive to positive planning. Despite this, the registered manager did not ensure that the child was protected from organisational issues. This did not provide the child with a sense that their needs were anyone’s priority.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The quality of some paperwork in the home is poor. Although all records that must be kept are available, some records indicate a critical approach of the staff team and contained unhelpful language. Regardless of the intent, any child reading such comments is likely to believe that their carers did not like them. This does not give children a positive sense of their self-worth.
