p.1

Information about this children’s home

The home provides care and accommodation for up to five young people who may have emotional and behavioural difficulties.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The home is operated by a local authority.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The home has been without a registered manager since August 2019.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This monitoring visit was undertaken to monitor the two compliance notices issued under regulation six: the quality and purpose of care, and regulation 12: the protection of children.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Since the assurance visit on the 15 September 2020, no children have moved in or out of the home. This has provided the home with a period of stability. Furthermore, the statement of purpose has been revised, and the number of young people who can be admitted to the home has been reduced from five to four.

p.1

This monitoring visit

At the assurance visit, it was evident that young people were smoking in their bedrooms. Records of room searches show that staff are checking the young people’s bedrooms on a daily basis. This is helping to manage this behaviour. Staff have also completed key-work sessions with the young people around the expectations of behaviour.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The acting manager did request some resources from the fire and rescue service to educate the young people on fire safety and awareness, but due to lockdown restrictions, there had been a delay in this work being done. This work has now been completed. Furthermore, staff have updated their fire awareness training. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC065067 2 The service manager has met with the fire safety officer in relation to concerns around fire setting and the young people smoking in their bedrooms. Plans are in place to install a new fire system that will alert staff to young people smoking in their bedrooms. The fire risk assessment has been updated and will be reviewed again to reflect the additional measures. This ensures that the welfare and safety of the young people are promoted.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The home environment has improved. The badly damaged landing carpet has been replaced and all the bedrooms have had new flooring. The broken furniture in the back garden and the debris on the sloping roof have been removed. This means that the home provides the young people with a safe, comfortable, warm and welcoming environment.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Ofsted is satisfied that as a result of the improvements made, the notices under regulation six and regulation 12 have been met.
