Cambian Childcare Limited
Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This home is operated by a private company and is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to five children with complex needs.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The manager was registered with Ofsted in September 2020.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This home was last inspected in January 2020. At the time there were no children living at the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The first new child moved into the home in April 2020. The second child moved into the home in July 2020. When the second child’s move into the home was being considered, careful consideration was given to the matching of both children.
p.1
This monitoring visit
As children have moved in, they have helped to choose colours and furnishings for their bedrooms and have been consulted on making improvements around the home. As a result, the home is homely, personalised and fit for purpose.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Despite the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, children have been supported to participate in a variety of activities. These opportunities have helped the children to develop their independence skills.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Despite the strengths in the quality of care, there are a number of shortfalls in practice. The manager’s monitoring systems are not well established. This compromises her ability to identify emerging risks that can have an impact on children’s safety. This lack of oversight has resulted in a missed opportunity to provide children with early help. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC476292 2 The manager has not regularly reviewed children’s behaviour management plans and risk assessments. As a result, information is out of date and compromises the staff’s abilities to fully understand children’s vulnerabilities. For example, staff have not been informed about a change in a child’s use of a mobile phone.
p.1
This monitoring visit
On one occasion, staff failed to follow the home’s policy on the safe administration of medicines. This error resulted in a child being placed at risk.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Managers failed on one occasion to notify Ofsted of a significant incident. Consequently, this has compromised Ofsted’s ability to fully monitor the service.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Two previous requirements were not followed up at this inspection, relating to children’s records and details of staff qualifications. These will be reviewed at a future inspection.
