Inspection report for children’s home – monitoring visit: SC033723 1 SC033723

p.1

Leeds City Council

Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

This is a local authority children’s home that provides care and accommodation for up to four children and/or young people. The purpose of the home is to support the children to either live independently or to return to a family environment.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The registered manager has been absent from work since 29 September 2020. The home has been overseen by a different registered manager. A temporary manager has now been appointed.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The purpose of this visit was to monitor compliance with enforcement action under regulation 12 and 13 of the Children’s homes (England) regulations 2015.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Children are at the centre of decisions made and are actively involved in the plans for the home and the care they receive. This has helped them to engage with the staff team and seek help when needed. Children speak to staff about their worries and there has been a significant reduction in incidents.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Staff are clear on the action to take to support children when they are in crisis. Risk management plans provide staff with actions to take to protect children. This means that staff respond consistently to children.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Staff have clear recording systems and processes to follow. They are aware of how risk assessments work and that they are expected to follow them. Staff’s knowledge and understanding are being checked in supervisions by the overseeing manager. This ensures that staff provide a consistent response to children. Inspection report for children’s home – monitoring visit: SC033723 2 Training and development days have provided staff with the skills and knowledge needed. Areas of further training are planned. Staff have the relevant skills to be able to support children effectively.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Monitoring systems are in place to help the manager maintain oversight of the home. This has been effective in staff being accountable for their actions as well as providing the manager with a daily overview.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Incidents have significantly reduced but two of the three incidents that have taken place have not been evaluated. However, the overseeing manager is addressing this and processes are in place to review and evaluate incidents, although these need to be embedded.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The home has made significant changes in a short space of time and the children have made quick progression as a result of this. The overseeing manager and temporary manager are aware of areas of improvement and have clear development plans in place.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The home has met the compliance notices.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Requirements made at the assurance visit will be assessed at the next inspection.
