Summary of outcome

Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Education, Children's Services and Skills is leading Ofsted's work into how regulated early years and childcare providers in England have delivered child- centred practice and care, within the context of the restrictions placed on society during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

p.1

Summary of outcome

All early years providers must meet the legal requirements in the Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage . If we find that a provider is not meeting the requirements, we can take action to ensure they put matters right.

p.1

Summary of outcome

On 14 October 2020, we received concerns that the provider was not meeting some of these requirements.

p.1

Summary of outcome

On 18 November 2020, we carried out a regulatory telephone call to establish if the provider was meeting the requirements relating to recruitment and vetting processes. During the telephone call, the manager advised they currently use procedures linked to 'safer recruitment'. However, the manager confirmed they had previously recruited a member of staff without carrying out appropriate checks. The manager acknowledged this was due to an error on their behalf. The manager also confirmed there was an oversight in their awareness of the disqualification requirements.

p.1

Summary of outcome

During the telephone call, we found the provider had taken action to address these weaknesses. The manager has refreshed her knowledge and as a result, recruitment processes are now tighter. The manager understands the procedures to follow if they have any concerns about the suitability of staff. The manager is also aware of the disqualification requirements. Furthermore, staff go through rigorous recruitment and vetting processes to ensure they are suitable to work with children. We are also satisfied that the provider has effective systems for checking the ongoing suitability of staff. The provider will be able to give parents further information about this. The provider is still registered with Ofsted.

Publication of compliance action

We aim to ensure that the welfare of children and young people is protected in the services we regulate. The Childcare Act 2006 and accompanying regulations set out our responsibilities to regulate childminders and childcare providers. This includes the enforcement powers we have in relation to those registered providers who do not comply with the requirements for registration. We publish details of any actions we take, or the childminder or childcare provider takes to bring about compliance with requirements on our website for a period of five years.
