p.1

The provision is inadequate

Children who receive funding from the local authority do not gain the full benefits of their educational entitlement. This is because the childminder has not made sure parents understand the importance of their child attending all the sessions they are eligible for. However, children receive good opportunities to achieve well when they attend.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Children settle quickly into a warm and enabling environment. They arrive cheerfully as their friends race to greet them. Children are eager to learn and confidently help themselves to the plentiful resources which they can access with ease. The childminder is strongly focused on helping children to achieve well. She plans an exciting range of activities based on her good understanding of what they need to learn next. Children are closely supervised by the childminder, who teaches them how to stay safe. For example, they are aware that they are not allowed to speak to strangers or go upstairs by themselves.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Children develop close bonds with the childminder. They seek her out for comfort and cuddles when they need. Children develop a keen interest in language. The childminder introduces them to new words during planned activities. For example, children repeat 'sticky' to describe the texture of their wet pasta. They learn social skills as they calmly eat their fruit at snack time.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder works with the local authority coordinator to help guide her practice. The local authority also provides her with funding to support some of the children. However, she has misunderstood the criteria for receiving the funding. As a result, she has failed to inform the local authority when children do not attend. This means that some children do not receive their full educational entitlement. n The childminder gathers detailed information about children when they start. She uses her knowledge of the children's needs and interests to provide activities that match their interests and curiosity. Children learn to solve simple problems and independently build number puzzles. The childminder gives them time to work out what number comes next. Children ably sequence numbers up to 10. They beam with pride as they achieve their goal and walk along the number line together. n The childminder provides a calm environment where children learn to use soft

voices and respect one another. They follow the childminder's clear instructions and behave well. Children learning to share resources receive good support to remember expected behaviour, which they respond to promptly to manage their feelings.

p.2

need to do better?

25 February 2020 n The childminder is committed to providing inclusive practice. She takes children to a variety of local amenities to help them learn about the local community and people who are there to help. Resources reflect the wider world and they are always available for children to use. The childminder has a strong knowledge of how to challenge stereotypes so that children learn to respect and value differences and similarities. n The childminder persistently reflects on her practice in relation to how well children learn. She has a wealth of information which she reads to help her provide good learning for children. The most able children receive good challenges to learn to concentrate and persevere in their learning. Although the childminder knows they need to be more independent, she eagerly completes tasks for them. The childminder does not reflect on all areas of her practice, which means she is not fully understanding the requirements about children's

Safeguarding

The childminder is aware of the signs that a child may be suffering from abuse and what to do to protect children. She is aware of the procedures to follow in the event an allegation is made against her or a member of her family. Children are closely supervised by the childminder to keep them safe. She teaches how to watch out for transport so they understand how to cross the road safely.
