p.1

The provision is good

Children settle well into the calm, well-resourced environment. They access inviting and interesting activities and experiences. The childminder has high expectations of all children in her care. Children confidently follow their interests and take a lead in their learning. They focus on activities and finish tasks to completion. For example, at the water tray, children use nets to pick up objects one by one. They focus intently on the task. This supports their developing concentration skills. Children's attitude to learning is positive. The childminder uses a range of natural and sensory resources. This creates an inspiring environment for children to explore. Children use their imaginations and creativity as they play and learn. They develop a good understanding of other people in the community. For example, children go on outings to the supermarket, fire station, playgroups and parks. They learn about

She models language well and asks children questions. However, at times, the childminder's enthusiasm means that she does not allow children enough thinking time to form answers to her questions. This means that she misses opportunities to extend children's language skills. n The childminder gives parents opportunities to share their views on her provision. Feedback from parents demonstrates that they highly value the

This contributes to children's good health and the smooth running of the setting. n The childminder encourages children to use mathematical language as they play. For example, she helps children to count the toy fish they catch in their nets at the water tray. The childminder incorporates numeracy, shapes and colours into her plans for children's learning. This builds on children's knowledge and

Safeguarding

The childminder completes training and accesses local network meetings to ensure her safeguarding knowledge is current. She knows the signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk of harm. She has a clear safeguarding policy and knows the local referral procedures to follow if she is concerned about the welfare of a child. The childminder has a good understanding of wider safeguarding issues such as the 'Prevent' duty. She completes effective risk assessments and supervises children well. The environment is maintained to a very high standard. Toys are regularly cleaned and checked for defects. This helps to keep children safe.
