p.1
The provision is inadequate
The childminder does not sufficiently promote children's safety and welfare. She has failed to notify Ofsted that her son has recently moved in to the home. Consequently, Ofsted have been unable to determine his suitability. The childminder has now initiated the process of completing relevant documentation. However, she has not sufficiently risk assessed unvetted individual's access to children. The childminder does not identify and remove certain hazards and she does not have a current first-aid certificate.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Children are happy, settled and confident. Older children sit and play happily as they choose what they would like to do. Toddlers enjoy a cuddle from the loving childminder, with whom they have a secure emotional attachment. The childminder works closely with parents to find out about, and meet, children's individual needs and care routines on entry. This helps children to feel safe and secure.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Children take part in a generally challenging and varied curriculum which, overall, meets their needs and helps them to make good progress. Older children are clearly developing skills for future learning. They have a positive approach to learning and focus well. They behave extremely well and are polite, kind and caring. Toddlers are developing early social skills well in most respects.

need to do better?
n The childminder does not diligently identify and minimise certain risks to children's safety. For example, she has failed to notice a bottle of alcohol which is stored at low level in a wine rack in the lounge. n The childminder's first-aid certificate has recently expired. However, she is currently completing paediatric first-aid training and has attended day one of the two day course. n The childminder has a wide variety of accessible resources in the playroom that engage older children well. However, those available to toddlers do not optimise their independent play, exploration and engagement. n The childminder undertakes comprehensive assessments of children's progress. This is reflected, for instance, in each child's unique learning journal, progress reports and their 'my star achievement' booklets. The childminder reflects children's future learning on 'next steps' footprints, which inform weekly play

plans. She shares these with parents, and gives suggestions about how they can support children's learning at home. n Children have ample fresh air and physical activity, which contributes to healthy living. For example, they visit the park and local woods and enjoy walks to the village and shops. n Children develop skills in mathematics and literacy, in readiness for school. For

need to do better?
24 February 2020 example, older children write letters in their name, enjoy stories and confidently count. They are skilful communicators and are very patient as toddlers remove circular blocks to stack these in imitation. The childminder introduces simple concepts to toddlers, such as big and small, and toddlers show focus while playing with a shape sorter. n Toddlers are learning to follow daily routines, such as sitting at the table to eat and helping to tidy up. However, the childminder does not consistently reinforce certain behavioural boundaries, to fully support their developing understanding of expectations. The childminder recognises, and warmly responds to, toddlers' care needs, such as nap time. n As older and younger children build together, the childminder sits alongside them to support their learning and extend their vocabulary. For example, she asks children what they are going to build and how they are going to do this.
p.2
need to do better?
Toddlers show good hand-to-eye coordination as they build a small tower with construction toys. n The childminder's qualification has an overall positive impact on children's learning. However, she has not considered how she can target further continued professional development to optimise teaching and learning. n Children have opportunities to understand what being unique means. For example, they learn about everyone's special celebrations and customs, and observe diversity through resources such as books. n The childminder actively seeks the views of parents and children, for instance through questionnaires. n The childminder works closely with other settings. This ensures a shared approach to children's care and learning, especially when there may be concerns about children's early development.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has failed to notify Ofsted of all adults living in the home so that relevant checks can be completed to ensure their suitability. In addition, the childminder does not recognise the potential risk to children from unvetted adults. The childminder keeps her child protection knowledge up to date through training. She has a good knowledge of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse and wider safeguarding issues, such as Prevent duty. She understands how to report concerns of a child protection nature.
