Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has implemented robust procedures to protect children from harm. She completes a safeguarding audit to ensure that her knowledge is secure and her training is relevant and up to date. The childminder evaluates her practice successfully and targets areas for improvement. For example, she has addressed the previous recommendations. She has accessed training and parents are now fully involved in making baseline judgements on children's learning. This enables the childminder to accurately identify starting points and target learning effectively. The childminder keeps her knowledge and skills up to date. She regular attends quality development network meetings that help her to maintain high-quality teaching and assessment skills. The childminder and her assistant work extremely well together. Their shared skills and expertise ensure that teaching is consistently strong.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides challenging opportunities for children to try to do things for themselves. For example, they create wonderful 'cakes' in the outdoor mud kitchen. Children test their skills by pouring their own water and making their own mixtures with mud, water, sand and leaves. Children are independent and confidently manage their own risks in play. The childminder embraces 'in the moment' planning to empower children to make their own play choices. As a result, children are highly engaged in their play and their interest is sustained. Families speak highly of the care that is provided. The childminder exchanges information with them regularly about children's progress to foster a shared approach to learning and care.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder offers home visits and settling-in sessions to support children's transition into the setting. This helps to ensure that children settle quickly into their new environment and form warm and close relationships with the childminder. Children enjoy the childminder's company and frequently invite her to join in with their play. The childminder and her assistant are good role models for children. Children share, take turns, and are kind to each other. The childminder provides children with good opportunities to get fresh air and exercise, and they enjoy time in the garden and visit local parks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are happy and confident learners. They enjoy a good range of opportunities to practise their skills. They explore using different tools in the play dough area and practise until they master the control needed to roll out the dough with a rolling pin. The childminder prepares children emotionally and physically for their next stage in learning, including starting school.
