p.1

The provision is good

The childminder provides a relaxed and nurturing environment. Children develop strong attachments to the childminder and feel safe and secure. They laugh often and snuggle close to her as they share their favourite books. Children concentrate well and develop fine motor skills, for example as they skilfully thread a pipe cleaner through a straw. Children cooperate well and respond positively to instructions to keep them safe. For example, they push the chairs to move them rather than picking them up. They are independent and enjoy small tasks such as tidying the toys away. The childminder's gentle interactions support the children to behave well. The childminder plays alongside children and extends their play. For example, she encourages them to colour sort different objects and asks what noises different animals make. The childminder observes and assesses the children effectively. She understands them well and has high expectations of what they can

achieve. The childminder plans appropriate next steps to help children to move forward in their development. She works closely with parents, and children progress well from their starting points. Parents comment that their children are 'growing in confidence' and 'learning new things'. The experienced childminder offers children fun and interesting learning experiences such as stomping in muddy puddles and making pizzas.

n The childminder has completed a varied range of training as well as the statutory training. This has helped her to increase her knowledge of child development and safeguarding children. Since her last inspection, the childminder has strengthened her self-evaluation and she considers the views of parents and children. This helps her to identify where she can improve to continue to maintain her high standards. She shares good practice with other childminders. n Arrangements for partnership working with parents and the children's wider family are excellent. Parents are extremely happy with the quality of care and education their children receive. They particularly value the childminder's 'effective two-way communication' and 'professional manner'. They comment that the childminder supports their children to progress rapidly in speech and language. She supports children who speak English as an additional language

well. Parents are impressed with the childminder's 'organisation and thoroughness'. n Children have many opportunities to develop their socials skills through attending local playgroups and childminding groups. They go on interesting outings, for example to nature reserves and dinosaur hunts. Children celebrate various cultural traditions such as Chinese New Year and enjoyed a meal in a Chinese restaurant. They paint together with their feet to celebrate Holi. This

24 February 2020 helps to support their personal, social and emotional development and to enhance their awareness of the wider world. n Language development is given high priority. Children learn to sing songs every day. Children delight in taking song sheets home to share with their parents. Parents comment their children are now familiar with lots of songs and can recite them along with the actions. The childminder uses props with storytelling. This helps to engage the children and further supports those who are learning to speak English as an additional language. n The childminder is very attentive and asks children questions to make them think. However, sometimes she does not give children enough time to respond before moving on. The childminder speaks clearly and introduces new words to help children increase their vocabulary. She uses every opportunity to encourage children to count and recognise colour. Children are encouraged to problem-

solve and are very proud when they succeed. n Well-established routines help children to know what to expect next. This is reinforced through a visual timetable displayed in the hall. Children are settled and content at the setting. They are independent and play well with the resources provided. On occasions, the resources are not easily accessible to fully support children's changing interests as they play. The childminder conscientiously supports children's health care needs. She has efficient methods in place both indoors and when on outings to meet all children's individual needs.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder completes regular safeguarding training. This includes wider safeguarding issues such as extremism and county lines. She knows the procedure to follow if she has a concern about a child's safety or welfare. The childminder clearly explains the indicators that may alert her to child protection concerns. She has risk assessed her home and outdoors to minimise any hazards. The childminder's home is secure and well organised. Children learn how to keep themselves safe. For example, they learn about the rules of how to cross the road safely on their daily outings.
