p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children flourish in the exceptionally nurturing and stimulating environment. The childminder places great emphasis on working closely with parents to establish consistent routines that fully meet the needs of each child. Consequently, children settle quickly into the home and are clearly extremely happy and secure in the childminder's care. Children show very high levels of confidence and independence, which are thoroughly nurtured by the childminder. For example, they fully prepare their own lunches each day. Children are exceptionally well engaged in their play. They work happily with others and their behaviour is exemplary.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

The childminder has ambitious expectations for children's development and they make excellent progress from their starting points. The childminder uses her expert knowledge of each child to consistently challenge and extend their learning. Young children are learning to write their names, while others learn about fractions and length as they snap breadsticks into halves and quarters and compare their sizes. Children delight in the childminder's company and enthusiastically share their thoughts and ideas. The childminder treats children with the utmost respect and listens carefully. She then makes outstanding use of such opportunities to involve children in planning exciting experiences that follow their interests and enhance their exploration of the world. For example, they collectively decide on a trip to a local museum incorporating a bus ride, as some children have never been on one before.

n The childminder remains highly reflective of her practice. She is ambitious in her desire to maintain her highly focused outstanding provision. She uses the knowledge she acquires from her professional development to continually improve on her service. For example, following training on early literacy, she has increased the number of storytelling and singing sessions and placed greater emphasis on helping children understand the story structure of a beginning, middle and end. n The childminder meticulously tracks children's progress and uses this to identify precise and detailed next steps to develop children's learning in all aspects of their development. She makes excellent use of this information to plan an exceptionally broad and stimulating curriculum that successfully captures children's interests and builds on their existing knowledge. n Children's care and education are maximised because the childminder

Children learn words to describe their feelings, use mirrors to explore their own features and can confidently describe features that are unique to them, as well as recognising differences between others.

n The childminder skilfully uses current affairs to help children develop their understanding of world issues and how to keep themselves safe through following rigorous hygiene procedures. Children learn about germs and their impact. They carry out experiments to understand what soap does to germs and sing a special song to help them know how long to spend washing their hands. n The childminder provides a language-rich environment, where children continually build and extend their vocabulary through stories, songs and discussion. Consequently, all children are confident communicators. The childminder fosters a passion for books. Children are enthralled as she brings stories to life and sustains high levels of concentration and engagement during story time.
