This provision is good
n The childminder has a good knowledge of how children learn and develop. This enables her to plan and provide exciting opportunities, that help all children progress in their learning and development from their starting points. n The childminder takes time to get to know the children, to help them feel safe and emotionally secure in a welcoming environment. Children form close attachments with the caring childminder and have a good understanding of the fair boundaries that she sets. n The childminder is successful in monitoring children's progress. She identifies any development gaps and ensures the planning includes activities to help children to achieve. n The childminder is highly effective at supporting children's early communication and language skills. For example, she clearly emphasises key words during her interactions, to help children build on their understanding and speaking skills. n The childminder promotes children's developing thinking skills well. She asks questions

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder effectively evaluates the provision and includes the views of parents and children to help identify areas for further improvement. For example, she has increased the range of opportunities children have to socialise outside of the setting to help enhance their social skills. The childminder keeps her knowledge up to date, for example, through training to help improve her practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder identifies potential risks in the environment and addresses these. She has a good understanding of the child protection procedures to follow and she is fully aware of how to report any concerns about children's welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes regular assessments of the children's play and achievements. She effectively challenges and enhances children's skills throughout their experiences. For instance, she challenges children to consider and create a place for the toy figures to dine in the doll's house. She gives clear explanations to further their learning, such as discussing the differences between an arm chair and dining chair. The childminder effectively improves children's mathematical skills throughout their experiences. For instance, she models counting as well as encouraging young children to explore and compare size, identifying bigger and smaller. The childminder has established successful communication systems to enable parents to share information about the children's interests and routines. Parents are complimentary about the quality of the childminding service.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder maintains a well-organised, welcoming and stimulating environment in which children are happy, settled and keen to explore. She gives them plenty of praise and encouragement, which helps to boost their self-esteem and confidence. Children are well behaved and the childminder encourages the good use of manners. The childminder makes the most of opportunities to enhance children's independence skills well. For instance, children enjoy preparing their own nutritious snack and pour their own drink from a jug.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well prepared for their next stage of education or their move on to school. They enjoy engaging in early handwriting opportunities. For instance, children enjoy giving meaning to the marks that they make in play dough and develop a good pencil grip to help with their early handwriting skills. Children develop a good understanding of diversity beyond their immediate family. For example, the environment has positive cultural images, books and diverse role-play resources. Children attend play groups with the childminder and develop their social skills successfully.
