Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has undertaken safeguarding training and can identify the signs of abuse. She knows how to follow the local authority procedures if she is concerned about the welfare of a child. The childminder risk assesses effectively and provides a suitable environment for children that she cares for. She manages routines well and consistently supervises children to help to keep them safe. The childminder welcomes parents' views and uses what she knows about children to help her to broadly self-evaluate.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder prepares activities which children enjoy and she encourages their learning through play. She knows what children need to learn next and she helps them to develop their skills. The childminder works in close partnership with parents, external agencies and other settings. She knows how to support children if they have any gaps in their learning or any special educational needs and/or disabilities. The childminder joins in with children's role play and guides them to extend their ideas. She reminds children of past experiences, such as recent trips, to stimulate discussion. The childminder asks careful questions to encourage their thinking and play. She provides a good-quality narrative, using new expressions and reinforcing vocabulary for them to hear. The childminder is a good role model and she helps young children to understand the concept of turn taking in two-way conversations.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder knows about children's interests and provides experiences that motivate them to participate. Children make choices in their own play and the childminder supports their learning well. The childminder encourages children to persevere with physical challenges, such as fastening buttons when dressing baby dolls. Children are eager to try things by themselves and they are proud of their achievements. The childminder provides a broad programme of experiences that helps to encourage children's social skills. Children particularly enjoy daily outdoor play, which helps to support their good health and physical well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are happy, engaged and fulfilled by the experiences on offer. For example, they enthusiastically enjoy water play outdoors, pouring, measuring and transporting. They share a strong bond with the childminder and they enjoy her interaction. Children are well behaved for their ages and are highly cooperative with one another. They are motivated to undertake care routines by themselves when they are capable of doing so. Older children like to take on small responsibilities and help the childminder and younger children with practical tasks.
