Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of local safeguarding procedures. She knows how to recognise and report any child protection concerns to help ensure that children are protected from harm. She has completed the required safeguarding training and renewed her first-aid certificate. Overall, the childminder uses self-evaluation well. She seeks the views of her co- childminder, parents and children to give her an accurate overview of the service she provides. Parents' written comments show that they are confident that their children are well cared for and are progressing well. They state that they would recommend the childminder to others.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The experienced childminder's assessment of children's progress is comprehensive, accurate and clear. She uses this information to identify precise and challenging next steps in children's learning. Children thoroughly enjoy using their imagination as they act out familiar experiences. They enjoy taking on the role of a hairdresser and styling the childminder's hair as well as each other's. Children relish taking part in rhyming and action songs. The childminder strongly encourages children's love of stories. She helps children follow the story and anticipate what will happen next. They talk about what they see in the pictures and make connections with the world around them.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy and settled. A gradual settling-in period is agreed with parents in accordance with their child's needs. Children demonstrate they have built secure and trusting relationships with the childminder. Healthy lifestyles are well promoted. Children benefit from fresh air and physical exercise while they play in the well-resourced garden. They receive clear messages about healthy eating and enjoy freshly cooked, nutritious meals. Children behave very well. They learn to share, take turns and have good manners. The childminder gives children clear, consistent guidance and gentle reminders about her expectations for their behaviour. She offers regular praise and encouragement which helps children to develop their confidence and self-esteem.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are making good progress. Children have good manners and strong social skills. They confidently initiate and hold conversations with their peers and adults. Children readily follow instructions and take part in routines, such as tidy-away time. Older children learn to manage their own personal care needs and quickly become independent. They develop an awareness of the wider world and diversity, and develop their knowledge of their own and others' cultures. Children are prepared well for the next stage in their learning.
