Inspection report children’s home: SC457435 1 SC457435 Registered provider: Cambian Childcare Ltd Interim inspection Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This is a privately owned and managed children’s home. It is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to two children and young people who have emotional and/or behavioural needs. The manager was registered with Ofsted in January 2019. He manages another dual placement home close by.
p.1
Inspection date: 12 March 2020
Enforcement action since last inspection: none Inspection report children’s home: SC457435 2
p.1
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
This home was judged good at the last full inspection. At the interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has sustained effectiveness.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The home has been closed almost continually since August and reopened at the beginning of February. There was one emergency admission in October. The young person stayed for a week. This was successful and gave the young person’s placing authority time to find a placement much nearer to her home area.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
One child moved into the home in early February after visiting the home and has settled in well. A young person moved in three days before the inspection. The manager planned these moves well and there is little risk from the child and young person sharing the home together.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The manager and staff are promoting the child and young person’s education. They both moved to the area with a local school placement and attendance at school is very good.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
There have been no significant incidents and just one occasion when a child or young person was late home. Staff took the appropriate action in searching for them and reporting them missing to the police in line with the individual’s safety plan.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The staff are building positive relationships with the child and young person. The staff take them out on trips and promote their individual interests. These include going to the gym and having relaxing baths with bath bombs. The staff promote family time for the child and young person and advocate for them when their needs are not met. This has helped one of them have a successful weekend trip home and stay overnight at her mum’s house.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The manager has recruited new staff and regularly uses staff from the sister home. There is a mixed-gender staff group, and the staff have the necessary experience, skills and qualifications to care for the child and young person. The staffing levels are providing the child and young person with a good continuity of care. This meets the requirement set at the last inspection.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
All the staff have been trained about safeguarding issues relating to exploitation and county lines. There is further training planned about county lines. The staff are able to recognise the signs that a child or young person is suffering any exploitation. This meets the recommendation made at the last inspection.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
On one occasion, a young person from the sister home stayed overnight. Although the manager considered this to be a safe arrangement, there was no written risk assessment to support this view. Neither were the relevant placing authorities Inspection report children’s home: SC457435 3 consulted for their opinions. The manager undertook to do this if a young person from another home needs to stay for a night again. Inspection report children’s home: SC457435 4
