The childminder undertakes thorough risk assessments of her home, garden and places they visit, to ensure children's safety. She effectively reviews the quality of her provision to help identify areas for development. Children play and explore confidently. They develop their early mathematical understanding and explore simple calculations, such as constructing a tower and then squealing with delight as they knock it down. They know that an object still exists when it is hidden and search to find it. Children respond to mathematical language such as 'tall' and 'short' during number rhymes, and explore this using their fingers. They gain good social skills and interact positively with adults and children. Children show an interest in exploring the natural world and observe the behaviour of animal visitors to the childminder's garden.
