This provision is good
n The childminder makes changes to her practice to enhance the provision for children. For example, she has recently developed an outdoor playroom. This supports children who prefer to play outside and enables all children to access a greater range of resources when playing outdoors. n The childminder effectively supports children's communication and language skills. For example, she uses gestures when explaining something to reinforce what she is saying. She gives simple instructions when asking children to do something. Children demonstrate that they understand what she is asking. Parents and carers make positive comments on the progress their children make in their understanding. n The childminder is very effective in promoting children's independence. She supports children to start to do things for themselves from a young age, including managing their personal care. She consistently supports this so that children have the

The childminder makes effective use of the knowledge gained from training to support children's learning. For example, having completed training in phonics she helps to prepare children for school by teaching them letter names and the sounds in words. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has completed a number of different training courses in child protection. She has a good understanding of what to do if she has any concerns about children. She is confident in describing possible signs or indicators of abuse and neglect. The premises are well organised, safe and secure. The childminder maintains required documents and records to ensure children's safety and promote their welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Overall, the childminder provides good-quality support for learning. She provides a good range of resources and activities across the seven areas of learning. She uses information about children's learning and their stage of development to identify what they need to learn next. The childminder has ongoing discussions with parents and carers so that they know the progress their child is making. She discusses how they can promote learning at home to ensure consistent support for children. As children look at a book she guides them how to turn the pages. She talks to them about the pictures and supports them to learn new words.
p.3
