Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows how to recognise signs that may suggest a child is at risk from harm. She understands how to report concerns and protect children's welfare. The childminder establishes good links with other settings that children attend. She values open communication with other professionals to ensure children receive consistent care and learning opportunities, contributing to their confidence and good all-round learning. For instance, the childminder has introduced a communication book to promote open communication with pre-school teachers.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has high expectations of children. Children are encouraged to persevere and independently work through challenging tasks. For instance, children concentrate and solve problems as they work out the sequence ingredients should be added to a cake recipe. Sufficient challenge extends children's learning beyond their current capabilities. Children make good progress. The childminder engages in particularly strong teaching practices to promote language and communication. She asks questions, provides ongoing commentary and narration, introduces new words and encourages discussion amongst children. Children become confident communicators.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are provided with great freedom and autonomy to complete everyday routine tasks and make decisions. They are highly independent and self-assured. For instance, children move freely around the thoughtfully arranged play environment, self-selecting games they wish to play with. Children develop good friendships. They take turns and celebrate each other's achievements during board games. Children of all ages play together and develop mature social skills. The childminder prepares nutritious homemade meals to replenish children's energy and promote their good health.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children's mathematical skills develop particularly well. Children weigh and measure ingredients when baking. They count, recognise numbers and complete simple calculations during this task. Under close supervision, young children climb and balance, developing their emerging physical coordination in a safe environment. Children build their skills from their starting points and prepare well for the eventual move to school.
