Staff build children’s confidence and self-esteem. They have discussions with the children about their hobbies and interests, and give them the opportunity to try new activities. They help them to join and participate in community-based clubs such as dance and drama group, and gymnastics. As friendships form in these supervised environments, staff then encourage children to socialise outside of the clubs. This helps the children to develop their social and independence skills.

They have tried imaginative routes to engage her, including home tutoring and online courses. The registered manager and staff have now advocated on her behalf, and are working closely with her placing authority to move her on to semi-independence. She has already successfully interviewed for a Saturday job, and has been given a date to be interviewed for a place on a college course.
